I'm a little late to the party on this one; even the bigger sites have beat me to the punch. Regardless; these screens and gifs are still going to look fantastic.
Shape of the World is a game that owes a lot to the wonderful and beautiful Proteus. A game in which you wonder around an island witnessing beauty, hearing music (partly generated by you) and seeing some special things unfold in the process. Proteus was a deeply personal game and, as such, didn't resonate with everyone. Shape of the World from Hollow Tree Games is already garnering much more traction among the mainstream media than Proteus ever did.
It is, in the creator's own words, "an ephemeral first-person exploration game where the world grows around you in a procedurally populated environment."
Sorry for the low quality gif, I couldn't work out how to put two side by side. The first time I saw it I was interested, and the mainstream coverage did it's best to turn me off, but this quote from the developer has made me back the game; "Exploration is about getting lost and the joy of being found again." Only one game has ever created that feeling for me, but I'm not going to talk about it... again.
Shape of the World is running a fairly successful Kickstarter campaign which still has 22 days to go and every chance of hitting its goal. Shape of the World is coming to Xbox One, PC and MAC and is scheduled for release in the middle of next year.
